We are reading the book Loser in my Language class right now. An optional project for the students' final is to write a review of the book and post it as a comment here.
The process of choosing a book to read as a class is always difficult as a teacher. It is especially difficult when trying to choose a book to read at the end of the year with middle school (8th and 9th graders) students. I was given a classroom set of a few books last year and had been quite interested in this book, so I took it home and read it.
Loser is by one of my favorite authors- Jerry Spinelli- whose books come to life as you read them. This one in particular, I was entertained by, but it wasn't my favorite. I liked that it related to students at any grade level; who hasn't felt like a Loser at some point in their life? I thought the message was particularly important for this age group: its okay to be who you are, find yourself and love you!
When I proposed it to the class, they were excited to read it because the title of the book is Loser! They are greatly anicipating reading the book and doing their assignments on the reading.
The comments you see will come from my students- I hope they end up liking it!

I think Loser is a fantastic book ever it's so funny and awesome. Jerry Spinelli is a creative writer I have ever seen the way it looks like you are inside the book and it feels like what Donald Zinkoff is going though in his life.
